FrankenStat

A monstrous PTA data combination

The direct combination of individual pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) times of arrivals is a complex, time-consuming task. However, the creation of FrankenStat, a new detection statistic that does not require a direct combination of the datasets, expedites the detection process. FrankenStat allows for cross-PTA detection statistics without a full-data combination, allowing the IPTA to examine the strength of detection signals in the dataset quickly. The statistic, designed after the well-known and tested Optimal Statistic, is currently in the test phase and is expected to be ready for use on a complete IPTA dataset by Summer 2025.

Data for pulsars from different PTAs is combined with FrankenStat. See (Agazie & others, 2024).
